2016 Forward Watches ECU From Afar
Ben Coupet is a forward from Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL) and is being looked at by some of the top schools in college basketball. With schools like Florida and Michigan recruiting him, East Carolina, Bradley and DePaul are the only schools to give him an offer. Coupet, a 6-foot-7 senior, received an offer from ECU in May this year. Being from Chicago Coupet has not seen much of ECU. Watching games recently, Coupet likes the transition offense ECU runs. “I’ve seen a few games,” he said, “I’m trying to see how I could fit into the system. I like the transition offense and the way they get up and down the court.” The forward doesn’t have a list of top schools compiled yet, but when he does start putting together a list of schools, playtime is an important factor. He wants to be able to come into a school and contribute immediately. Coupet’s athleticism and strength allows him to move around and score from many positions on the court. His play on the court is aggressive, as he likes to get to the foul line and attack the rim. Coupet also likes to get up and down the court quickly and score in transition. “I like be a good defender,” he said, “I also like to get to the rim and draw a foul. I also really like to get my transition game going.” Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, Xavier, are all recruiting Coupet. Coupet never believed to be in this position and is blessed to be recruited by these schools. “It’s just a blessing really because I never thought I would ever be recruited by these kind of schools,” he said. Coupet has not been to ECU but plans on visiting sometime in October. He also is planning on making a decision sometime in October, but will wait till January if needed.
