ECU unveils new basketball schedule

ECU officials revealed the 2015-2016 basketball schedule coming up this season.

East Carolina’s 2015-16 men’s basketball schedule includes 13 games against teams that participated in postseason play last season with 10 games versus teams that competed in either the NCAA Tournament or NIT.

The schedule is composed of 31 regular season games with 16 home dates. East Carolina will play 18 American Athletic Conference games with home-and-home series against eight members and a single game at home against Houston and on the road versus Connecticut.

The Pirates' second season in The American features an exciting docket of home games, including four teams that participated in postseason play this past year: Cincinnati, SMU, Temple and Tulsa. The Pirates will play a home-and-home series against the aforementioned foursome as well as UCF, Memphis, USF and Tulane.

All 18 of the Pirates’ American Athletic Conference games will be televised with 12 games on either ESPNEWS or ESPNU with three additional contests broadcast by CBS Sports Network. The remaining three games will be shown on ESPN3 as will eight non-conference games.

League play begins Jan. 2 at home against UCF and concludes at home against Memphis on March 6. The 2016 American Basketball Championship will be played March 10-13, 2016 (Thursday to Sunday) at Amway Center in Orlando, as previously announced.

Grambling will serve as the Pirates’ season-opening opponent on Nov. 13 inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum before Charlotte comes calling three days later.

ECU then heads west for a pair of road games at California and San Diego State as part of the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational. The Pirates’ game against the Golden Bears will serve as its first trip to a PAC-12 opponent and first game in The Golden State.

ECU continues play in the Invitational on Thanksgiving Day against Little Rock at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Pirates will then face either Bethune-Cookman or Stetson the following afternoon.

Non-conference play concludes in the month of December with five of seven games at home. ECU will host Florida Atlantic and USC Upstate, led by former Pirate head coach Eddie Payne, before traveling to College of Charleston. The final four non-conference games of the season feature a pair of CAA and MEAC opponents as the Pirates host N.C. A&T, UNC Wilmington and South Carolina State and travel to James Madison.
