BEST WIN

Houston’s win over Navy might as well have been part one of the conference championship. After all, the winner of the game earned a spot in the AAC championship game and took home the West crown. It was expected to be a close bout between two teams that crept up into the top-25 but the Cougars manhandled the Midshipmen on the way to a 52-31 win. Greg Ward, Jr. had a fine performance, throwing for 308 yards and three touchdowns. His performance was a key factor in Houston scoring 52 on Navy’s staunch defense. The Cougars will now face Temple in the conference championship game.

BEST PLAYER PEFROMANCE

Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich seems like a lock to win the AAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year and his performance on Saturday against UConn was not outlier to his exceptional play this season. The senior recorded a team-high 11 tackles, on his way to being named the AutoNation National Defensive Player of the Week. He also added a sack to top things off.
