Reports indicate that Duke offensive coordinator Scottie Montgomery is set to become East Carolina's next head coach.
Nothing official has come out of ECU's camp, which is unsurprising, but all signs point to Montgomery's appointment as the Pirates' next head man.
Montgomery was widely viewed as David Cutcliffe's protegee, and was a former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver coach. He has ties to college football and the NFL but doesn't have any meaningful head coaching experience.
One thing Montgomery does have is strong recruiting ties to the state of North Carolina. He's widely thought of within the coaching circles as an excellent recruiter..
A native of Shelby, North Carolina, Montgomery played professionally with the Denver Broncos before eventually returning to Duke to be an assistant coach at his alma matar.
