Hamrick to leave?

Having been the beneficiary of his ire I am not one to be objective on the subject of East Carolina Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick, so when I say it's time for him to pack his bags it should come as no surprise.

"Hambone", as Hamrick is not so affectionately known among East Carolina sports fans is a finalist for the athletic director position at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). Hamrick flew to Las Vegas on Sunday for a two-day interview to be held today and tomorrow. This is not the first time in his tenure at East Carolina that Hamrick has interviewed for another position. Despite his denials at the time, Hamrick interviewed for the Kansas position in 2001.

At ECU, Hamrick makes $180,000 annually plus bonuses on a contract that runs through June 30, 2005. UNLV's departing AD, John Robinson was paid $148,000 annually. Reportedly, UNLV president Dr. Carol Harter has said she hopes to name the new athletics director by the end of August. Here's hoping that the Hamrick era along with its baggage will be leaving the Emarald City soon.
