Sophomore Lackawanna cornerback Alex Woods is preparing to transfer to a Division I school.
Woods, who was offered by East Carolina on Feb. 11, is a big target for the Pirates in this recruiting cycle.
“They were recruiting me pretty heavily when they offered and have continued to recruit me hard.” Woods said.
Woods has already taken a trip to Greenville.
“My favorite part of the visit was seeing the campus,” he said. “It’s a very nice campus.”
Woods also has a relationship with a member of the ECU coaching staff. Antonio King, who is the running backs coach for the Pirates, coached Woods when he played for Hillside High School in Durham, N.C.
He also has connection with new head coach Scottie Montgomery. Woods’ brother worked with Montgomery while he was at Duke and he noted how it’s comforting to already know some of the members of the coaching staff.
Woods is impressed with the football program at ECU.
“It’s a program that’s on the rise and it has been for a couple years now,” he said. “I also think if it continues to grow; it’s going to go far. And I feel like it's a place I could in an help.”
Woods has no timeframe for a decision.
