DE Zion DeBose talks ECU visit and more

Following his latest visit this past Saturday, in-state DE Zion DeBose spoke with InsideECUSports about receiving an offer from ECU, and shared his thoughts about Pirate football

Spencer (N.C.) North Rowan defensive end Zion DeBose is a major target for the 2017 East Carolina  recruiting class.

Since DeBose received his offer last May, he has visited ECU three times. On his latest visit this past Saturday, he familiarized himself with the new coaching staff.

"Saturday was my first time going with the new staff there," DeBose Said. "I like the new coaching staff; they are actually interested in me. Most importantly, I feel like they can get me better at football."

DeBose also commented how the coaching staffs' ideologies go beyond the gridiron.

"It's not just football with them," said DeBose. " They like my character and they're the type of coaches I can go to about problems."

DeBose also commented on the newest member of the Pirate coaching staff, new head coach Scotty Montgomery.

"So far I like Scotty. He's a great coach," said DeBose. "He's already building the program, and he's serious about molding athletes into great young men."

From his three visits, DeBose has identified the weight room as his favorite part about ECU.

"The weight room," said DeBose. "ECU has equipment I haven't seen before at other schools. It's nice and big with plenty of room."

DeBose also shared the three words he associates with the East Carolina program.

"Discipline, family, energy," said DeBose.

Looking forward, when DeBose makes transitions from high school to college, he wants to better himself on the field and in the classroom.

"I want to be a better student than I was in high school," DeBose said. "Athletically, I want to become bigger, faster, stronger, and become a player that helps benefit the team."
