Union Pines all-conference DE Taijh Alston spoke with InsideECUSports about his decision to join the class of 2017 and become a PIrate

Union Pines (N.C.) defensive end Taijh Alston recently committed on his second visit to East Carolina on April 16, adding a valuable asset to the class of 2017.

During his April visit, the 6-foot-5 220 pound Alston toured the facilities, and was able to catch up with head coach Scotty Montgomery.

"Wa ate and then they showed me around," said Alston. "I also got to sit and talk with the head coach, and then we watched the spring game."

Alston also shared the wisdom that coach Montgomery bestowed upon him during his visit.

"It was just me and him in the office," said Alston. "He was telling me to keep my grades up until I enroll. One of the things I remember him saying was if you don't want to go to the NFL don't come here."

From his time spent with coach Montgomery, Alston concluded that Montgomery is a coach he can see himself playing for.

"I think he's a players coach," Said Alston. "He always has high energy and ready to go. He's the type of coach I want to play for."

He also shared what he is looking to bring to the program when he becomes a Pirate in 2017.

"I plan on bringing my high energy and explosiveness," said Alston. "I'm going to give the program everything I have."

Alston finished his junior year season with 77 tackles, and has received first team all-conference honors twice.
