Cleveland Ohio C John Spellacy Commits to East Carolina

ECU has added pass protection to their 2017 class with Cleveland C John Spellacy, who spoke with InsideECUSports following his commitment this past Saturday.

Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius center John Spellacy committed to East Carolina  last Saturday, adding pass protection to the class of 2017.

Before his commitment, the 6-foot-1 285-pound Spellacy previously visited for ECU's elite Junior day on April 9.

The junior day visit was an eventful one. It included meeting with the coaches and seeing Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

"My dad and I met with coach Montgomery," said Spellacy. "We talked with him and he offered. Then I went around campus with my dad , (offensive line) coach (Geep) Wade, and (offensive coordinator) coach (Tony) Peterson. Then we walked around the facilities and watched the scrimmage in Dowdy."

On his second visit when he committed, Spellacy was surrounded by his family, and met with coach Montgomery.

"I had my mom, dad, and little sister with me.," Spellacy said. "We toured the campus again and then I committed. Then before I left, coach Mo caught up with me to congratulate me and welcome me to the ship. I was really excited."

From his encounters with coach Montgomery, Spellacy has grown to like him.

"He's a great guy," said Spellacy. "He's the type of guy every kid would want to play for."

The Ohio native is excited to be committed to the Pirates.
