New year, new DL for ECU

As ECU's defensive line improves, so does their outlook for this season.

The defensive line position is set for the upcoming football season for the East Carolina Pirates.

This year, 12 athletes will be in the rotation and be given the job to control the game.

Last year, the defense as a whole did a solid job keeping the games close giving them chances to win. Though the 5-7 record the Pirates had good season defense wise.

One player to keep an eye on this year and possibly in the draft is senior Fred Presley. He started with the football program back in 2012 as a walk-on. In the years following he worked his way up the totem poll into a starting position just three games into last season. In the 2015  campaign Presley ,defensive tackle, recorded 44 tackles  and got four tackles for loss. He was a consistent member of the defensive line getting on average five stops a game. Presley will continue to be a defensive opposition to every offense that comes his way.

A few players will have to step up and carry the load this season, Shaun James is one of those athletes. Though he has only played one game so far in his collegiate career there's still a bright future for James just a sophomore. In the spring game April 9th he recorded a batted pass, then on April 19th he had a pair of stops one resulting in a tackle for loss. Mike Myers is another player who could be in position for extended playing time this season. Myers played in seven games off the bench his sophomore year, and logging six tackles.

In order for this season to be more of a success than the last the defensive line unit needs to band together and be aggressive. Under the reigns of D-Line coach, Deke Adams, the sky is the limit for what pressure this squad will apply to opposing offenses'.
