2017 Athlete Darius Pinnix Commits to ECU

2017 in-state athlete Darius Pinnix has decided to be a Pirate. InsideECUSports caught up with him to discuss his decision and his future.

Last night, 2017 in-state Athlete Darius Pinnix announced on twitter that he has made the decision to commit to East Carolina.

“It feels great,” he said. “As soon as I committed last night I was smiling from ear to ear and I couldn’t get the smile off of my face.”

At 6-1, 225 pounds, Pinnix is listed as a running back but he lines up all over the field and plays both sides of the ball.

The Pirates are going to bring him in to play linebacker but he says that they will also be giving him the opportunity to play offense.

In his junior season at Western Alamance High School, Pinnix was a match up nightmare for opposing defenses. He tallied 1,012 yards rushing, 1,345 yards receiving, and had 20 total touchdowns.

Going into his senior season he says he is working to become a better leader for his team.

“I want to motivate my teammates to be great,” he said. “I want to push the younger guys so that they can have these kind of opportunities. I want to be a role model for them.”

Pinnix had 16 offers in total but he expressed that there was just something different about East Carolina. He also looks forward to what ECU has to offer academically.

“I want to thank God for the opportunity,” he said. “I also want to thank my coaches, the coaches that recruited me, and especially my parents.”

Western Alamance opens the 2016 season on August 19th against Cummings High School.
