Head Coach Scottie Montgomery spoke to the media following East Carolina's opening practice

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina head coach Scottie Montgomery took a moment to talk to the media about the Pirates' first practice on Thursday.

East Carolina conducted their first practice of the year on Thursday. After a long, drawn out summer, the Pirates get to show off what they worked on all off-season.

Coach Scottie Montgomery preached that the team is ready physically, but said the next step is to get them ready mentally.

Montgomery is looking forward to his first season in Greenville.

"I'm really excited and I got a lot of energy and our coaches got a lot of energy," he said. "Our players are doing what we ask them to do and we couldn't be happier. We got a long way to go, though -- a lot of football."

ECU will be back on the practice field today from 4:15 to 6 p.m.
