Coach Montgomery breaks down elements of practice

Greenville, NC -- Head coach Montgomery spoke on the progress the team has made so far in preseason.

East Carolina was back at practice Monday. After the first scrimmage was held on Saturday, the players finally got a taste of what games may be like this year.

Though there were some setbacks Monday, one being the heat, it was still a good practice according to coach Montgomery.

"We had to battle through some more elements," he said. "It (the heat) will help us and we will use this heat as another element" said Montgomery.

The greatest takeaway from this practice has to be the aggressiveness of the defense throughout the day.

"They play hard, they run to the ball, they do all the little intangibles, and what we are trying to do defensively is all the ordinary things really, really well," said Montgomery.

Tuesday the Pirates will conduct a two-a-day practice and continue to make progress despite the heat that will top off at 98 degrees this afternoon.
