Head coach Scottie Montgomery gives takeaways following performance against WCU

Greenville, N.C.-- East Carolina's head coach Scottie Montgomery speaks to the press following the game against Western Carolina

Head coach Scottie Montgomery spoke to the press after the opening game against Western Carolina.

Though the Pirates won the game 52-7, coach Montgomery still pointed out the places where the team needed to improve. Montgomery did have a few good takeaways from the game on defense and offense.

Offensive standouts for the game proved to be quarterback Philip Nelson, running back Anthony Scott, and wide receiver Zay Jones. They all controlled the tempo and moved the ball up and down the field.

Setting the tone on defense outside linebacker Yiannis Bowden, defensive back Trevon Simmons, and defensive lineman Demetri McGill. All did outstanding jobs.

Of course the team must not get blinded by this victory, but should be focused and begin preparation for the this Saturday's game against NC State.
