ECU comes out on top against rival NC State

GREENVILLE NC-- East Carolina comes up with a big win at home over in-state rival NC State.

The East Carolina Pirates were able to hang on late in the game to come up with a 33-30 win over in-state rival North Carolina State. With this win over the Wolfpack, it makes six straight wins over ACC teams for the Pirates who were playing "up a level" according to NC State head coach Dave Doeren.

With 5:49 left in the 4th quarter running back Anthony Scott plunged into the end zone on a 5-yard touchdown run to take the lead. The Pirates never looked back holding the NC State offense scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Along with that game-clinching touchdown, Anthony Scott hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Philip Nelson in the second quarter. For two straight weeks, Scott has proved to be a threat on the ground and through the air.

In addition to Scott, James Summers made some big time plays on the ground that proved to be crucial for the Pirates. Summers finished with two electric touchdown runs while in at quarterback and finished with a total of 41 rushing yards.

Starting quarterback Philip Nelson had another strong outing going 33/43 for 297 yards and one touchdown.

Coach Montgomery has started his coaching career 2-0 at East Carolina and brings an energy to the field that can be felt throughout the stadium and most likely through a television screen.

Next Saturday, the Pirates travel to Columbia, SC to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks for their first road game of the season.
