Lets take a look at what the Pirates need to do in order to come out victorious this weekend

As the East Carolina Pirates head to Columbia to take on the Gamecocks this weekend, Inside ECU Sports takes a look at what the Pirates need to do in order to come out with a win.

East Carolina  is 2-0 and there is a lot of excitement stirring about the program.

The Pirates already have a win against the ACC this year and will look to continue their winning steak against power five opponents on Saturday.

As game day approaches, lets take a look at ECU's "keys to success" that will help the Pirates come out victorious.

The first key to success is spreading out South Carolina's defense and forcing them to go sideline-to-sideline. If ECU can disperse the Gamecock secondary, that will open the flood gates for Zay Jones and Jimmy Williams to get open deep and expose gaps down field.

The second key to success for ECU will be how they handle going on the road for first time and playing in a hostile environment. ECU has had some serious mojo at home this year, blowing out Western Carolina, then topping N.C. State the following weekend. This will be a huge test not only because of the skill of the opponent, but because of the venue.

The third key to success will be the play of ECU's offensive line. It is imperative that they can buy time for Philip Nelson so he can do his job. Lets not kid ourselves, this is an SEC team. South Carolina has a tough and physical defensive line that will be bringing pressure all day. ECU's offensive line is going to have to man up and really dig in this Saturday.

If the offensive line can hold off the Gamecocks, that will also open things up for the last key to success, which is junior running back Anthony Scott. Last weekend, Scott's fourth quarter touchdown was the one that sealed the deal and earned ECU the win. If Scott gets support from his offensive line and gets the ground game going, ECU could come out of this weekend undefeated at 3-0.
