East Carolina puts up a tough fight, but comes up short against South Carolina

In a game plagued with turnovers and disorientation on the offensive side, ECU came up short against South Carolina 20-15

On Saturday, ECU lost their first game of the season 20-15 against South Carolina.

It was a struggle all game ECU offensively. The Pirates struggled all day against the Gamecocks' pass rush. However,  the one bright spot for ECU's offense was Zay Jones, who recorded 22 receptions on the day.

Philip Nelson also had a pretty decent day. Nelson finished today with 400 yards on 44-of-58 passing and  two touchdowns. The aformentioned Jones accounted for 190 of those yards.

One solid take away from tonight's game was ECU's defense. After giving up 17 points early, the Pirate defense shut down the Gamecock offense throughout most of the second half

The achilles heal for ECU was turnovers. In total, the Pirates had four. Two came in the red zone, proving catastrophic for the Pirates.  

ECU will have some things to work on this week in practice. However,  their defense and overall performance of Nelson and Jones were promising

ECU faces Virginia Tech next weekend in Blacksburg for a noon kickoff.
