ECU dominates UConn on homecoming

Greenville N.C. -- After five weeks of losing, ECU returns to the win column with a 41-3 victory over UConn

Pirate Nation, it is time to take a huge sigh of relief after ECU dismantled the UConn Huskies 41-3, and won their first game in over a month on Saturday.

The Pirates were clicking on all cylinders and the combination of stud performances from the offense and defense gave way to a dominant 38-point win.

ECU had the momentum going early as they stuffed UConn on fourth and one. On ensuring drive, ECU found the the endzone and never looked back.

Philip Nelson completed 11-of-15 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter alone.

As usual, Zay Jones also had a huge day. It seemed like he had magnets attached to his hands that swallowed up every ball thrown to him.

By the end of the afternoon, Jones finished with 185 yards on 19 catches and a touchdown. With those 19 receptions, Jones moved into second all-time on the NCAA receptions list, trailing only former Pirate great Justin Hardy for the FBS record.

ECU also did something today they had not done in a long time -- get pressure on the quarterback. Dayon Pratt recorded ECU's first sack in five games. The Pirates finished the game with threee sacks.

Head coach Scottie Montgomery and his staff also deserve credit. They had a good game plan, which helped the Pirates get a much-needed victory.
