The Pirates fall to the Mustangs 75-44

Greenville, N.C.-- The East Carolina Pirates took on the SMU Mustangs in the Pirates second AAC match-up. The Mustangs snapped East Carolina's 2-game winning streak. Now the Pirates are (9-6) on the season and (1-1) in the conference putting the team in 6th place in the American standings.

This loss should be a wake-up call for the Pirates, in a game where they were routed by 31 points at home.

Takeaways from the Matchup

  • The team did not play solid defense throughout the game. The Pirates allowed all 5 starters from the opposing team to score double digits.
  • The offense for the Pirates needs to improve. The team shot 35% from the field and an abysmal (3-20) 15% from outside the arc.
  • The team was out-rebounded by SMU 52-24.
  • The bench for the Pirates has to become more productive when they are subbed in the game to keep the momentum rolling.

The Pirates must now shake off this loss, bounce back, and get prepared for their next conference match-up against USF who are (11-3) on the year.
