Inside ECU Sports preview the linebacker position in 2017

The 2017 ECU football campaign will introduce many new linebackers, but ECU will also be saying goodbye to a few key starters.

ECU will lose five linebackers to graduation this spring.

Those seniors include starters Cam White, Dayvon Pratt, and Terrel Richardson. White recorded 63 tackles in 11 games last season and was an impact player for the defensive unit. Pratt is another player who was key to the defense in the 2016 season. He recorded 61 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two force fumbles and four pass deflections, while playing in only 10 games. Richardson also played in 11 games this season and recorded 59 tackles.

ECU also loses seniors Drayvon Fairley and Devaris Brunson.

The Pirates should bounce back at the position next season with numerous players returning. Expect for linebackers Jordan Williams, Ray Tillman, Yiannis Bowden, Pat Green, and a few others to excel next year.

Williams led all linebackers with 77 tackles, a  sack and a pass deflection. He also played every game in the 2016 campaign. Tillman was also a very productive outside linebacker. In the game against Navy, he recorded a whopping 18 tackles. Bowden on the other side recorded 42 tackles and played in 10 games.

The linebacker group will be a strong defensive unit. With the 16 athletes returning to the team for the next season, the future is bright.
