East Carolina ends six-game skid against Tulsa

Greenville, N.C.-- The East Carolina basketball team took on AAC opponent Tulsa in an endless battle Wednesday night at Minges coliseum. The Pirates prevailed 69-66, despite Tulsa's Junior Etou scoring 31 points.

ECU came out and played aggressively on both ends of the floor, getting to the free throw line and forcing turnovers. Hybrid guard/forward Kentrell Barkley was especially effective in the half. Barkley had nine points and six rebounds. Center Andre Washington four points and nine rebounds in the first half as well.

The ball movement for the Pirates was very good. The team was resilient and made runs when they were down and eventually took the lead and did not give it up.

This is the first win under interim head coach Michael Perry, and he noted that he was sure coach Jeff Lebo is was proud. 

Notable Statistics:

  • The team shot 36.8 percent from the field
  • The Pirates went 21-30 from the free throw line
  • ECU outrebounded Tulsa 49-39
  • Three players for ECU had double-digit rebounds

The Pirates are now 10-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Their next game is at Memphis, who is 15-6, on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
