Hunter or Hunted?

Syracuse defensive back Will Hunter hasn't forgotten the success that ECU quarterback David Garrard had against the Orangemen's secondary in last year's 34-17 Pirate victory.

In Monday's pregame press conference Hunter said, "I feel like we owe them something. They passed for a lot of yards on us last year. The defensive backs have to go out and prove ourselves."

For the record, Garrard completed only eight passes on Hunter and his cohorts last September, but three went for scores. Garrard's had touchdown passes of 46, 65 and 33 yards respectively, accounting for 144 of his total of 201 yards passing on that rain-soaked day. The weather will not be a factor this Saturday, as the game is being played in Syracuse's Carrier Dome

Through four games, the Syracuse secondary is giving up an average of 196 yards passing per game, but that fact doesn't shake Hunter's confidence going into this Saturday's contest. He thinks that the inspired play of defensive end Dwight Freeney will help stifle ECU's passing efforts. Hunter says Freeney's fierce rush makes it a lot easier SU's defensive backs, "We know the ball is coming out in about two seconds. You hold it any longer than that and Dwight will be on top of you."

Like the fans, Hunter thinks this latest SU-ECU match-up will be a good one, "It's going to be exciting. It's going to be a shootout. I can't wait to get started. I'm prepared."
