Southern Mississippi's loss to Louisville was the Eagles' second C-USA loss, and based on the league's short history effectively eliminates them from contention for the conference crown. That leaves only four schools competing for the championship.
ECU, Louisville, TCU and Cincinnati all still have a shot at the Liberty Bowl. With head-to-head games against the other three, the Pirates control their own destiny. Win those three games and ECU wins the C-USA championship and a Liberty Bowl berth. Even a season ending loss against USM would not change that. Yeah, its that simple – on paper.
