Bowl Worthy?

East Carolina lost a shot at an outright C-USA championship against Louisville then lost a shot at a tie for the title in a 28-21 loss to Southern Mississippi.

An ECU win over USM coupled with the Louisville loss to Texas Christian would have left the Pirates and Cardinals tied for the league championship. As it is, the Cardinals win the title outright and at 6-5 ECU has to wait for a possible bowl invite.

Had the Pirates defeated the Golden Eagles, a GMAC Bowl invite would have been forthcoming, now all bets are off. Fortunately for ECU, C-USA has 4 bowl tie-ins this year, the Liberty Bowl, the GMAC Bowl, the Bowl and the Motor City Bowl. Louisville has already accepted an invite to play in the Liberty and speculation has it that USM wants to travel to Houston to take on Texas A&M. that leaves Mobile and Detroit as possible destinations for the Pirates.

Many would question ECU's bowl worthiness, but Pirate coach Steve Logan isn't among them. Said Logan following the USM defeat, "In 1996, we sat at home at 8-3. I've said all along one of these days we're going to be a 6-5 team and go. We do what the system dictates and we are part of the system. We weren't part of the system back then. We are a very representative football team."
