Lon Morris head coach Dale Dotson had seven players sign scholarships this year, and his best shooter may have been East Carolina signee James Legan.

"James did plenty good for us," said Dotson. He was all-region on a team that finished sixth in the country and had multiple guys sign scholarships."

An All-Region XIV selection, Legan averaged 15 points and five boards as a sophomore. The 6-foot-2 guard was considered one of the top 3-point shooters in junior college basketball. "East Carolina recruited him because he can fill the goal up with basketballs from deep," said Dotson. "He's a shooter. He's not a point guard, I can tell you that. He's a shooting guard, and a very deep shooter.

"He averaged right at 15 points a game, and that is on a team that had six guys average double figures. I'm telling you, he is a scorer."

Dotson is very familiar with Pirates head coack Ricky Stokes, and he stated that Stokes did a good job in locking up Legan.

"I know Ricky pretty well, and he got the because he can score," said Dotson. "I've known Ricky Stokes for a long time. He's a good coach, and he was a heckuva player. I think he's going to do a good job there. I like them."

Because he lacks ideal height for the shooting guard position, Legan might be asked to play some point guard for East Carolina. While he is a great shooter from the perimeter, Legan can improve in certain areas.

"He probably needs to work on handling a little better," his head coach stated. "He is not a point guard... he's a catch-and-shoot guy. He is not going to create much, but he can get it going in a hurry. He can turn it loose in a heartbeat. I'm telling you, he is a scorer."
