If sketchy news reports and Internet messageboards are to be believed, it would appear that the East Carolina head coaching position will either go to NC State assistant head coach Doc Holliday or LSU assistant Kirk Doll, a former
ECU player in the '70s.
In today's Raleigh News and Observer several other names were also mentioned as candidates including Pittsburgh
defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads, Tennessee
running backs coach Woody McCorvey, Temple
coach Bobby Wallace, an ECU assistant in the Pat Dye era and even former Georgia Tech
coach George O'Leary.
Reports out of West Virginia say that Holliday, a West Virginia native and former WVU assistant under Don Nehlen will be named football coach at East Carolina within a day or two.
Holliday left WVU the year before Nehlen retired and joined Chuck Amato at N.C. State, where he has served as assistant head coach.
