Jamal Turner commits to the Stags

The New England Recuiting Report is reporting that Jamal Turner of Thayer Academy in Massachusetts has given Fairfield a verbal committment to play in 2008. Turner will be switching High Schools for 2007-08 and playing his senior year at Tilton Prep.

Jamal Turner is a 6-3 190lbs combo guard who has had a relationship with Fairfield head coach Ed Cooley ever since is was an assistant at Boston College.

"Coach Cooley is the reason why I want to be there," Turner said. "He's a good person on and off the court and I know he'll be behind me no matter what. I know what they're all about…It's a trust factor too, Coach Cooley did his homework on me and I did my homework on him."

Other schools of interest were Central CT, Duquesne, Northeastern, Quinnipiac and Rhode Island.

Turner is described as a player who is very athletic and explosive on the court. He can defend and rebound his position very well, but needs to work on his outside shot and creating scoring opportunites for himself.

Turner was the 53rd ranked HS Freshman in 2005, the 80th ranked Sophomore in 2006, and the 444th ranked Junior in 2007 by Hoopscoop. He is currently the 13th ranked player in Massachusetts.
