Former Florida Gulf Coast women's soccer star Shannen Wacker begins NWSL training camp Monday, March 9 as a member of FC Kansas City's preseason roster, the team announced.
The Blues 28 player preseason roster will compete in practice games against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (March 15), Kansas Jayhawks (March 31), Missouri Tigers (April 4), and Iowa State Cyclones (April 4). Kansas City, the reigning NWSL champions, will then have to cut down their roster to 20 prior to the beginning of the regular season when they kick off play against Sky Blue FC on April 12.
Founded in 2012, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is the highest tier of professional soccer in the U.S. and consists of nine teams.
Wacker, a Parker, Colorado product, concluded her collegiate career last fall as the program's all-time leader in points (83) and games played (83). Led by the forward's 7 goals and 5 assists, the Eagles captured their third Atlantic Sun Championship and hosted the university's first NCAA D-I Tournament game - dropping the contest, 1-0, to Auburn.
