FGCU To Host CIT Game

Although Florida Gulf Coast isn't headed to the Big Dance, the Eagles will still be playing some postseason ball.

FGCU has accepted an invitation to the College Insider Tournament and will be hosting a first round game on March 18 at 7 pm against an opponent yet to be determined, the school announced Monday.

"This a good opportunity for our team to continue practicing, getting better and playing competitive games," FGCU head coach Joe Dooley said in the release. "To receive a postseason bid is a testament to the schedule that we played, especially in the non-conference. It's also a great opportunity for our seniors, especially Brett (Comer) and Bernard (Thompson) to play at least one more time in front of a home crowd.".

The Eagles are just one of a slew of Atlantic Sun teams that have found experience and success in a post-season tourney not nicknamed the Big Dance, as Upstate, Mercer, and ETSU have all competed in the CIT in recent years.

This gives FGCU seniors Brett Comer, Bernard Thompson, Jamail Jones, Nate Hicks, and Marcus Blake one last chance to lace 'em up in front of the Alico crowd. If they Eagles do a capture a first round win, they could potentially host in the following round as well.

The CIT is comprised of 32 teams and the first round takes place March 17-18, 2nd round (March 20-21), quarterfinals (March 24-25), semifinals (March 31), and championship (April 2). The preliminary rounds are live streamed on collegeinsider.com and are available for free, while the semifinals and championship are broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
