One of only three returning players for Miami Dade College, 2016 prospect Marvin Jean Pierre will have a little extra weight on his shoulders this season as he leads the Sharks after a 21-11 campaign in 2014-15.
"It's something coaches have been telling me," said Pierre, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard. "Basically how far I can take my team. I just have to be a leader."
Having a year of JUCO experience under his belt, Pierre also mentioned the maturity its brought him as a basketball player, just "the game of basketball and how to approach it." This approach lead the Pompano Beach, Fla. product to average 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season.
This caught the eye of Florida Gulf Coast coaches, who contacted Pierre about a month and half ago.
"[They like] that I'm a 'go' person. I can go at it anytime. I've got a high motor and can put the ball in the basket," Pierre said.
He made the trip to Fort Myers on Oct. 23 for FGCU's Dunk City After Dark.
"It was good. Everyone came and supported," Pierre said. "I liked the atmosphere and it was a nice experience."
Pierre, who will sign during the late period, plans to take a visit to Texas Tech, one of the other schools involved in his recruitment. He has also been hearing from St. Bonaventure, Arkansas State, Colorado State, and Rutgers.
