Lipscomb hands FGCU first Atlantic Sun loss

Florida Gulf Coast dropped its first conference game this season as they fell to Lipscomb, 91-75, on Sunday afternoon.

Despite winter storm Jonas postponing this Atlantic Sun matchup until Sunday and creating frigid outside temperature, the Lipscomb men's basketball was white hot inside Allen Arena on Sunday. The Bisons began the game 9/11 (81%) from three and finished the day 19/33 (57.6%) from beyond the arc.

FGCU could not overcome this hot-shooting and fell to Lipscomb, 91-75, to suffer their first Atlantic Sun loss of the season.

Out of the gate, Lipscomb feed big man George Brammeier for a quick four points. But the Bisons soon started working the inside-out game and poured it in from three point range. Joe Dooley called a timeout with the Eagles down 9-2 early. FGCU to cut the lead to 39-31 in the closing minutes of the first half, but was unable to get any closer.

While the Bisons we're unstoppable from long range, Florida Gulf Coast was as cold as the weather outside - shooting just 4/17 from three. The Eagles found their most consistent scoring around the hoop, where they edged Lipscomb 32-22 in points in the paint. Marc-Eddy Norelia (19 points, 8 rebounds) was once again close to recording his eighth double-double and breaking the FGCU single season record.

Some notes on Lipscomb's record breaking afternoon:

Florida Gulf Coast moves to 13-8 on the season and 4-1 in the Atlantic Sun. The Eagles head home to battle Jacksonville on Wednesday night.
