No. 3 Florida State Hosts The Citadel Wednesday

Florida State returns to Dick Howser Stadium for one game against The Citadel on Wednesday and a three-game weekend series against North Carolina. Freshman right-hander Glen Simon (2-0) has not allowed a run in his first two career starts and will get the nod as the starter for the Tribe against The Citadel.

#3 FLORIDA STATE (25-4, 4-2 ACC)

Florida State dropped to No. 3 in Collegiate Baseball's weekly poll after losing two of three at NC State last weekend. The Seminoles lost a Saturday doubleheader (4-2 & 5-2) to the Wolfpack before bouncing back to win the Sunday game 3-1. Florida State returns to Dick Howser Stadium for one game against The Citadel on Wednesday and a three-game weekend series against North Carolina. Freshman right-hander Glen Simon (2-0) has not allowed a run in his first two career starts and will get the nod as the starter for the Tribe against The Citadel. FSU's pitching staff has been impressive through the first half of the season, leading the ACC with an ERA of 2.33. Junior All-American catcher Tony Richie is FSU's top hitter (.333) and RBI producer (31) while freshman third baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve leads the team with five home runs.


THE CITADEL (14-8)

The Citadel has won eight consecutive games to push its record to 14-8. The Bulldogs have played one of the nation's toughest schedules to open the season. They took one of three at Miami, split a pair of games with NC State and fell to Tennessee and South Carolina in single games. Sophomore Griff Beckham (1-0, 1.00 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Bulldogs.


THE SERIES

Florida State leads the all-time series with The Citadel 8-1, which dates back to 1998. FSU's lone loss in the series was a 5-2 decision in 2001. Last year, the Seminoles won a pair of games by scores of 4-0 and 11-3. The two teams have met once in NCAA postseason play with Florida State taking a 24-6 victory in 1999.
