It Tastes like Chicken

Florida State dominated their in-state rival on Saturday afternoon and walked away with a convincing 31-7 win. More good news followed as Maryland defeated North Carolina State which sends the Noles to the ACC Title game next Saturday against Virginia Tech.

Florida State took Florida to the woodshed, it was so bad that UF Head Coach Urban Meyer flat quit in the 4th quarter. He punted the ball down 31-7 with 10 minutes to play from midfield and did not use ANY of his timeouts in the second half. Clearly, he was happy with just a "mild' beatdown.........an odd attitude for a coach who is KNOWN to run it up as much as possible(and has against FSU).

When you look to the other sideline you see a coach who exudes class. Head Coach Jimbo Fisher was content to just earn the win even though he had every reason to want blood in this one. The victory made FSU "State Champs" in 2010 with convincing wins over Miami and UF.

Offensively quarterback Christian Ponder went out in his last home game with a bang. He completed 16 of 24 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns against ZERO interceptions. Ponder has his signature win and FSU nation should be grateful for the contributions that he has made to the program.

Ponder spread the ball around to a variety of WR's including Rodney Smith(4-79, 1 TD), Taiwan Easterling(3-35, 1 TD), Bert Reed(3-33), Bo Reliford(2-30), and Willie Haulstead(1-29, 1 TD). Haulstead's TD was the back breaker for the Gator's who never recovered. The offensive line gave Ponder plenty of time to throw; they clearly are one of the top units in the country. Senior Rodney Hudson is one of the All-Time great Seminole's, just a warrior.

The FSU running game was a bit of a disappointment in terms of the numbers, but Chris Thompson(17-42) showed some toughness and it clearly set the pass up to succeed. Fullback Lonnie Pryor sliced into the end-zone for a score; he is an extremely valuable member of this team.

The Mark Stoops defense stayed with their bend, but don't break mentality and if not for an Andre Debose 65 yard kickoff return, this was probably a shutout for the Nole defense. UF used musical chairs at the QB spot once again showing the old adage, "having two QB's really means you have none". The Gator's took that to the extreme with three playing. John Brantley(6-12, 52 yards, 1/1), Jordan Reed(2-4, 12 yards, 13-74 rushing), and Trey Burton(9-31 rushing) were largely ineffective on the afternoon.

The FSU defense produced four turnovers and that was probably as big of key to the game as any. The Noles also did not turn the ball over either.

What does the win mean? Well, just about everything for the Noles. It broke a six game winning sreak by the Gator's and gives Coach Fisher wins over his two chief rivals in year one. He was ecstatic after the game. This was the BIGGEST recruiting weekend of the year and the floodgates will open from this. How can an offensive recruit ink with UF? It will be very difficult considering their struggles this year.

FSU's work is not done however, a win next Saturday will send the Noles to a BCS game(the Orange Bowl) and will be added momentum heading into signing day.

It is a great day for Nole fans around the world.
