"I thought we made some improvements out there today. The hitting was good. We made some good tackles out there, good hits. We caught the ball better. We didn't work Chris Rix as much – we wanted to work Fabian (Walker), and work Wyatt (Sexton), and even work the other quarterbacks some with our first team, get them some work. We were lucky on the injuries – I hadn't seen anybody get carried off or anything. Might be some bruises, or something like that, but I think everything else is pretty good."
Q: Brad Johnson was watching today's scrimmage from the stands. Did he speak to the team?
A: "No. No, he didn't."
Q: How pleased are you with Fabian Walker's progress after shoulder surgery?
A: "He's getting some more work, which is what he needs, and I think he gets better every day, as he begins to get over that operation. It wasn't a serious operation – I think he's getting better with it, throwing better with it."
Q: Chris Davis has been held out of scrimmage work, but he had a great day in pass skeleton drills – caught three long touchdowns. How impressive is that?
A: "They couldn't stay with him. He's too fast."
Q: Is he what you expected from him, coming out of high school?
A: "Yeah – what you're seeing is what you were hoping you saw in high school. I just wish he could scrimmage – it would be good for him and us, but he can't. So he'll be back in the fall, thank goodness."
Q: What are your plans for this final week of practice, heading into the Garnet and Gold game?
A: "We'll continue doing the same thing we're doing right now, just trying to get better. We'll probably have another scrimmage. We're working Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday – just trying to get better. We'll probably have a scrimmage Wednesday, like we did today, and then the game. Hopefully enough kids will stay healthy to do what we need to do."
