Shelton Joins '13 Class

Florida State has been running hot recently in the 2012 class with commitments from James Hamilton, Christo Kourtzidis, and Cason Beatty. The 2013 class is also getting worked on and Sojourn Shelton becomes the second player in that class along with Austin Golson.

Sojourn Shelton

Ht/Wt: 5'9, 155

Position: Cornerback

High School: Plantation

About the player: Shelton hit the recruiting scene in full force at the "SoFlaExpress" tryout in February. While being a year younger than most of the CBs, he was still clearly one of the best.

He is a "pure" CB, that is what he does, he just covers. He showed those elite cover skills at FSUs camp over the weekend and earned his offer.

Everything athletically that schools are looking for, Shelton has. Speed, quickness, hops, and long arms are just some of the qualities that he possesses.

The ONLY issue is that he quite light in the seat right now. However he is young and those that have been following Vernon Hargreaves(another '13 CB) have seen quite a change in him physically. Shelton should follow suit over time.

While he would be considered on the short side, there is not much doubt that he will grow some there.

He is clearly one of the top prospects in South Florida for the 2013 cycle.

For FSU: He is the second commit in the 2013 class joining Prattville OT Austin Golson. FSU does not have a current CB commit for the 2012 class, although P.J. Williams certainly can play CB.

Shelton was simply better at camp than some of the 2012 prospects and that is why he got his dream offer.

Another top target at CB is Vernon Hargreaves and he is very high on FSU at this time as well.
