FSU will get a second chance to notch its first ACC victory of the young season. It's quite rare that the Seminoles have entered the month of October without a league win. In fact, FSU has only been winless in ACC play on Oct. 8 one other time in its 19 years of membership. In 2009, the 'Noles didn't score their first ACC win until Oct. 22 at North Carolina. ...
Mark Stoops' Florida State defense, which ranks sixth nationally in total defense (257.0 ypg) and 13th against the pass (174.5 ypg), will be tested by Wake Forest. Led by quarterback Tanner Price, who is second in the ACC in passing and total offense, the Demon Deacons are averaging 422.5 yards per game, including 314 through the air. Wake Forest is also scoring 34.5 points a game, while the Seminoles are yielding just 17.0 points and rank 22nd nationally. ...
A year ago, the FSU defense rattled Price and fellow quarterback Ted Stachitas, piling up six sacks and 11 tackles for loss while limiting the Demon Deacons to 185 yards in a 31-0 triumph. Sophomore defensive end Brandon Jenkins launched his breakout season with three tackles for loss, including two sacks, among his six tackles. ...
Keep a close eye on the ground game relative to the outcome of the contest. The Seminoles and Demon Deacons have the fewest rushing yards among ACC teams entering the game, with 318 and 434, respectively. Wake Forest, however, has an 8-3 advantage in rushing touchdowns. Neither team gives ground defensively against the run. FSU is second in the ACC in rushing defense (82.5 ypg), and Wake Forest is third (100.0). ...
Florida State junior kicker Dustin Hopkins enters the game having converted 102 consecutive PATs and needs seven to establish a new school record. Derek Schmidt holds the mark at 108. Hopkins is also working on a streak of 14 consecutive successful field-goal attempts. Graham Gano converted 15 in a row back in 2008. ...
Freshman receiver Rashad Greene leads FSU in touchdown receptions with five and has caught at least one in each of the first four games. All five of his scoring receptions have come from redshirt freshman quarterback Clint Trickett. ...
Junior quarterback E.J. Manuel, who suffered a left shoulder injury against Oklahoma and missed the Clemson game, could be back in the lineup at Wake Forest. BB&T Stadium is the site of Manuel's first career start back in 2009, when he passed for 220 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 53 more and a score in a 41-28 win.
