Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel said Monday his injured left shoulder feels better and he expects to play Saturday against Wake Forest.
Manuel, who injured his non-throwing shoulder in the loss to Oklahoma on Sept. 17, has done some light passing indoors with FSU trainers. He threw in practice for the first time since the injury on Monday afternoon as the No. 23 Seminoles (2-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) prepare for Saturday's game at Wake Forest (3-1, 2-0).
The quarterback said he is ''feeling a whole lot better than I was two weeks ago this time. My range of motion, my strength and all of my other stuff is back. I'm excited to get back out there at practice.''
When asked if he expected to play on Saturday, Manuel quickly said, ''Yes, sir.''
Coach Jimbo Fisher was not so quick on the trigger.
Fisher would not say who would play, Manuel or redshirt freshman Clint Trickett, who started against Clemson on Sept. 24. Fisher said he would see how Manuel practiced and observe how the shoulder is recovering, but said he is pleased to have Manuel back.
''That brings another big dimension to the offense,'' Fisher said of Manuel. ''Not that Clint wasn't, but it brings extreme athleticism back to the position.''
Trickett made his first college start in a 35-30 loss to Clemson, completing 24 of 38 passes for 336 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
FSU had a bye last week and may also get back two more players. Fisher is also optimistic that wide receiver Bert Reed (ankle) and defensive back (Greg Reid) will return to play against the Demon Deacons.
