QB E.J. Manuel
On the importance of a fast start:
"They're extremely important. We try to have all three facets of our team playing well from offense, defense to special teams, and it was huge to start out early."
On running the option:
"I think coach [Jimbo] Fisher trusts me to make the correct decision, and I make sure to take care of the ball. I was able to get rid of it, and Devonta Freeman made a great move that got him the touchdown."
On the receivers stepping up with Rashad Greene still sidelined:
"I don't think there's a whole lot of slack. All of those guys can make big plays. We obviously want to get Rashad Greene back, and he should be back this week, but everyone's doing a great job for us stepping up."
On shutting out a good NC State offense:
"It's always amazing when you can get a shutout. It's really what you strive for when you go into a game, and you don't want the offense to give up any points. But when you can actually have a shutout, it's amazing"
On the defense forcing three turnovers:
"It was really good because we have just been emphasizing forcing turnovers, and who knew that we would come up big like we did today."
WR Bert Reed
On the game plan against NC State:
"We just executed. The offensive line did a great job stepping up and giving us time, and E.J. did a great job making plays. When we execute our passing game, we don't really hurt ourselves and can move the ball efficiently."
On being back to full strength:
"It feels good to hit the bursts a little bit. It's good to know I've got that extra gear back."
On not giving up any big plays:
"We've had to work on tackling and wrapping up instead of throwing our shoulders at them, which was happening a lot at the beginning of the season."
On getting his first interception of the year:
"It was great. [Defensive coordinator Mark Stooops] just keeps stressing turnovers, and we've just been working on stripping the ball and interceptions. And just really anything that you can think of we have been working on, and our hard work came out this week for sure."
On the defense getting the shutout:
"They played great. We were talking about it during the week and how we haven't had a shutout in a long time, and they were able to go out there and get it."
On getting out to a big lead:
"We've been trying to get out of our slump, trying to be more explosive in the first half and coming back in the second and maintaining that intensity."
