Noles Offer Weatherford

Drew Weatherford, who is one of the top prep high school quarterbacks in the Southeast, got some good news last week. His childhood favorite Florida State offered him a scholarship. Click here to read about the offer and what Florida State's chances are with the all-state quarterback.

Last week Coach Dickey (Florida State) offered me a scholarship," Weatherford, who passed for over 2,600 yards and 39 touchdowns with only six interceptions as a junior, said. "Coach Dickey told me that he talked it over with all of the coaches and said I was the type of guy they wanted for quarterback at Florida State. He also told me that they (coaches) wanted me to commit as soon as possible."

According to Weatherford, the Noles would like two sign two quarterbacks for the class of 2004.

"Coach Dickey told me that they are recruiting several quartbacks nationally," the 6-foot-2 and 195 pound quarterback from Land O Lakes high school said. "I'm fine with them taking another guy. That's what competition is all about."

Right now Weatherford estimates that he has 20-25 scholarship offers. Some of the teams that have offered him are Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forrest.

What will Weatherford do?

"It sounds like a great opportunity for me," he said. "I have already sat down and talked about it with my father. I think we are going to go to several football camps this summer and then hopefully make a decision before the season starts."

This Summer Weatherford will attend football camps at Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida State.

What are the Noles chances?

"Florida State is my last camp," he said. "I think there's a very good chance that I'll commit to Florida State after their camp. Florida State chances are as higher than anybody else's."

Weatherford has befriended tow former Florida State quarterbacks and he got some good advice from them.

"I friends with Casey Weldon from church," Weatherford said. "Last week I played Tennis with Casey and Brad Johnson. I asked them for advice and they told me to talk it over with my family and pray about it."
