South Florida LB has Tally Ties

Willie Williams, a hard-hitting defender from Miami Carol City, might not only be the top linebacker in the state but the top overall player in Florida. Right now he's getting plenty of attention and offers from college coaches, including Florida State. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound beast has ties to Tallahassee. Will it be enough to get him out of Miami? "My sister is a sophomore in college up there," Williams, who had a habit of blowing up running backs on a regular basis, said. "She uses to play on the basketball team until her knee injury. She's still on scholarship (Athletic and Academic) though. We are very close and she's pulling for me to go to Florida State."

The South Florida native is very good friends with several of last year's prospects, including incoming Florida State defensive tackle Clifton Dickson.

"Clifton is a very good friend of mine," Williams said. "We talk about every week. He's also pulling for me to go to Florida State."

Williams is also very good friends with Ali Highsmith (Miami), Dwayne Bowe (LSU) and Courtney Denson (Auburn).

Williams, who compares his style of play to Ray Lewis and Derrick Brooks because of their speed and aggression, is open minded.

"I like all of the Florida schools plus Auburn and Oklahoma," he said. "I need to go visit the schools and meet the players and coaches. Plus I need to look into the academics and depth charts of each school.

This summer, Williams will attend football camps at Auburn, Florida State, Florida and Miami.

What will it take to get this South Florida gem out of Miami?

"My family wants to do what I want to do and make the right decision," he said. "Going away from home or staying close doesn't matter. I have the social skills to fit in anywhere."

In addition to being one of the best players in Florida, he also excels in the classroom by carrying a 3.8 grade point average.

Williams has a special motivation in life.

"My father passed away when I was 10," he said. "That motivates me to go out be the very best."
