Will Latu's Strange Recruitment

One of this weekend's official visitors is junior college offensive linemen Will Latu. It has been a long road to the FSU radar for Latu and NoleDigest takes a look at the timeline of recruitment.

High School(2008)

St Pete Gibbs High School where current Lincoln head coach Yusuf Shakir was the head coach.

Did not go out for football until the summer before his senior season. That meant that he missed the Spring where the D-1 colleges are developing their boards.

Cousin to Jon Halapio(signed with UF).

After a year of playing he had exactly one scholarship offer: Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Northern State University(2009)

As with most of the smaller programs in the country, the "full scholarship" was not enough for Latu in South Dakota.

He redshirted at NSU.

Latu left NSU to go to JUCO in California.

College of the Canyons(2010-2011)

Steps on the field in his RS freshmen year and dominates from day one.

After first season he starts to attract D-1 offers.

Offered by Boise State, Arizona, ASU, KSU, Utah, Auburn, West Virginia amongst others.

July 10, 2011: Commits to West Virginia

July 22, 2011: De-commits from WVU and commits to Auburn

Latu takes the next step as a sophomore and puts together a better season than his freshmen one. More schools come in.

With the commitment to Auburn----he is expected to enroll early. Does not pass the necessary classes to do that.

January 6th, 2012: Dropped by Auburn for not getting in early and re-opens his recruitment.

January 13th: Expected to officially visit Florida State.

Will likely visit a few schools out west as well.

It has been a wild ride for Latu since he decided to play football in high school. Talent has never been the issue, experience has. He received that experience in California and is now ready to take on the D-1 ranks.

Those that have scouted him say that he has NFL potential.
