National Signing Day: An FSU Primer

Wednesday is the big day in the recruiting world, and Florida State fans will be anxiously awaiting National Letters of Intent as they come through a fax machine. Here's everything you need to know about signing day at FSU.

Florida State's sports information department will take to Twitter in order to announce the National Letters of Intent as they arrive. We will honor that at by using it as our official source of confirmation. That Twitter feed is @Seminoles_com, and it will be included as a part of JC's Interactive Chat.

We are going to use general times, as signing-day ceremonies at high schools are notoriously late starting and often take longer than expected.

Early Morning

FSU's first verbal commitment was S P.J. Williams, and he stands a good chance of being the first NLI in publicly. After a brief flirtation with Miami, Williams has firmed up his commitment. But he will have to act very quickly, as the speed demon in the class, WR Marvin Bracy, has the same general time for his announcement. After a blistering, world-class 55-meter run this past weekend, Seminole fans are drooling over what he could possibly do on the gridiron.

DE Mario Edwards will sign with the 'Noles live on television (ESPNU, 9:00 a.m.). He has been working the phones the past week in an effort to finish out this class. But was he successful?

The first real surprises of the day should happen around 9:15-9:30, as a pair of linebackers from pipeline schools make their decisions. Josh Harvey-Clemons (ESPNU, 9:15 a.m.) of Valdosta (GA) Lowndes is expected to cut a team tonight on radio from his three leaders: UF, FSU and UGA. Does FSU make the cut? We think so. Jacksonvile (FL) First Coast's Reggie Northrup has been committed to rival Miami since the summer. Did a late official visit to Tallahassee turn him? That is a very good possibility. Could it be North Carolina? Time will tell.

Mid Morning

This is the time of day that should be a real gravy train for coach Jimbo Fisher, as DE Chris Casher, TE Christo Kourtizidis, P Roberto Aguayo and DE Dante Fowler officially sign. Fowler has "entertained" UF for the better part of the year. Was there any substance? We don't think so, but we will find out for sure.

Two uncommitted prospects will make their decisions: DT Eddie Goldman (ESPNU, 10:15 a.m.) and CB Colin Blake. We have both players in Florida State's projected class as of today, but Auburn and TCU, respectively, are also in the running. We feel good about each player at this time.

DT Justin Shanks has been a solid commitment since summer. A little flirtation with Tennessee took place, but Shanks has been one of FSU's biggest recruiters and his papers should come in well before 1:00 p.m..

CB Ronald Darby (ESPNU, 2:30 p.m.) is a player that was off the radar for much of the year as a Notre Dame commitment. Things changed at the Under Armour game and after an official visit to FSU.

OT Menelik Watson is expected to sign tomorrow, although no firm time has been established by him or his junior college. Saddleback is in California, so it won't come in before 11:00 a.m. and likely happens much later, but probably before 3:00 p.m.
