Top Corner Has FSU In His Top Three

Each year there are a select few top-notch cornerback prospects to choose from. Even rarer is to find a corner that not only can cover but one that is also not afraid to hit. Trimaine Goddard of Robersonville (NC) Roanoke is one of those rare defensive backs. Because of his special talent, he's receiving an awful amount of attention from college coaches. Florida State is one of those teams that are hot after the North Carolina star. Click here to read all about it.

Florida State is one of many teams that have offered the 5-foot-10 and 185 pound athlete. Other programs that have stepped forward with offers are Virginia , Wake Forrest, North Carolina , Duke , Georgia , Tennessee and East Carolina.

How do the Noles feel about him and are the feelings mutual?

"Coach Lilly called me on the phone in May and told me how important I was to them and they needed me to come in at corner," he said.

"Lilly also said that they wouldn't mind if I wanted to try a different position. He told me that they brought in Warrick Dunn as a corner and he moved to running back. Coach Lilly has also been writing me letters about coming down for camp. He wants me to see what it's like. My family and I are talking about it and we are making plans."

Goddard, who racked up over 2,700 All-purpose yards on offense and 124 tackles with six interceptions on defense, grew up a Seminole fan. However, it looks like Virginia will give the Noles some stiff competition.

"My top three right now are Virginia , Florida State and North Carolina ," he said. ‘Right now Virginia kind of stands out the best. They first school to offer me and they have been recruiting me the hardest. Their coaches are very straight forward. Carolina was my favorite in-state school. They have been recruiting much harder now."

The Roanoke high school senior to be, has already unofficially visited Virginia and also has plans to camp at North Carolina this summer.

What are Florida State 's chances with him?

"Florida State has a shot," he said. "I'm keeping my options open. I probably won't decide until after my football season."

Goddard, who will play any position that gets him on the field the fastest, compares his style on offense to Michael Vick of Atlanta and Brian Urlacker of Chicago on defense.

"Some people compare my style on offense to Vick," he said. "I can go full-speed, see the hole and then cut on the dime. On defense I'm like Urlacker..... He will really come up and hit you. I'm like that. That's probably why I like defense so much."
