Are the Noles close to offering WR?

Marcus Edwards, a standout wide receiver from Mayo (Fla.) Lafayette, grew up a fan of Florida Sate. The 5-foot-11 and 165 pounder with 4.5 40 speed has lots of offers but not one yet from his childhood favorite. Is that going to change any time soon?

"Florida and Florida State wants me to attend their summer camps," Edwards said.

Edwards, who just attended the Kerwin Bell football camp in Ocala, isn't sure if he'll attend any more camps this summer. However, an unofficial trip to Tallahassee this summer is a strong possibility.

"Coach Allen called me in May and told me that Florida State is recruiting me," he said. "Coach Lilly is recruiting me also and Jeff Bowden watched our jamboree game. They want me to camp at Florida State this summer. It's more than likely that I'll take an unofficial visit there this summer."

Some of the schools that have offered Edwards a scholarship are Stanford, Maryland, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Southern Miss and Central Florida.

Edwards is open among Stanford, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina and Maryland.

However, with an offer from the Noles that could change.

"Florida State has always been my team," he said.

Edwards, who is ranked 12th overall on Larry Blustein's class of 2004 pre-summer top 120 list, had an excellent spring game by catching 10 passes and two touchdown passes.

The Mayo (Fla.) native has excellent grades in the classroom (3.7 grade point average) and he's on track to fully qualify.
