Christmas is a Nole

Florida State picked up their seventh verbal commitment for the 2014 class on Monday morning when Manatee's Demarcus Christmas made his college choice.

"I have known for awhile that I was wanted to go to Florida State so I committed to Coach Fisher this morning," said DeMarcus Christmas.

Christmas is part of his own fearsome foursome defensive linemen at no. 1 in the country Bradenton Manatee (Derrick Calloway, Blake Keller, Marquis Dawsey). He is widely regarded as one of the top 2014 DTs in the country.

Here is a live evaluation from Jamie Newberg:

DeMarcus Christmas will be the big man on campus next season. Literally. He's a 6-foot-4 and 290-pound defensive tackle who is already one of the most coveted prospects from the Sunshine State in the 2014 class. Christmas has verbal scholarship offers from teams like Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Florida, Alabama, Auburn, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi State and plenty of others.

Christmas, plays mainly at the three-technique. He's bigger than Derrick Calloway and runs better than his teammate. Christmas just needs to works on his technique and playing with better hands like Calloway. He can shed blocks and is a better pass rusher than Calloway. Christmas is powerful, pretty athletic and is only going to get stronger. He gets off the ball well and really does a nice job of pushing the pocket.

Christmas and Calloway both had very solid games against Miami Central on Friday. Calloway is more suited to play over the center as a nose guard while Christmas is your prototypical three-technique or under-tackle. However, they did swamp positions for a series or two in the second half against the Rockets. Christmas finished the game with a fourth quarter sack, a handful of quarterback pressures and a few tackles for a loss.

Geoff Vogt's take from earlier this year:

"Junior DeMarcus Christmas(DT) did not make as many plays as Calloway, but he has a good chance of being even more heavily recruited. At close to 6'4, 280 pounds he has near ideal size to go with plus athleticism. In other words he has all the tools, he just needs reps and experience to hone the finer points of the game. He flashed that talent with a couple of impact plays."
