Another Assistant added to the staff

It appears as though former Tennessee defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri has agreed to become a defensive assistant coach at Florida State.

After Jeremy Pruitt was hired to become the Seminoles defensive coordinator, it began to make the rounds that Pruitt's primary target to have join him as an assistant was Sunseri. The move will reunite the two who coached together for three seasons at Alabama. Sunseri will likely coach linebackers for the Seminoles.

With the loss of former running backs coach and special teams coordinator Eddie Gran, who agreed to become the offensive coordinator at Cincinnati last week, it is likely that Sunseri will also take over special teams duties.

Sunseri also has experience coaching with Jimbo Fisher as the were on the same staff at LSU in 2000.

Sunseri was hired as the defensive coordinator at Tennessee in January of this year. However he was let go after Tennessee fired head coach Derek Dooley just last month.

The move also raises another question which could have an impact on the direction of the defense. Both Pruitt and Sunseri have primarily been a part of a 3-4 base scheme.

It is unknown if Pruitt aims to switch to the three-four, but if he does it would eliminate the need for a defensive ends coach as Odell Haggins would take over the entire defensive line and instead the Seminoles would have an outside linebackers coach and an inside linebackers coach.

Just as in the Pruitt situation, Jimbo Fisher has not made any official announcements on the new hires. Look for coach Fisher to announce the hires in the coming days.
