PITT-FSU Opener Could Be In Jeopardy

The rumored opening season matchup still has a few hurdles to clear before it can become official.

According to a report from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the rumored opening game between Pittsburgh and Florida State still has a few hurdles to clear before it can be made official by the ACC.

Perhaps the biggest hurdle is the fact that Villanova is currently scheduled to play Pittsburgh on August 31 at Heinz Field. On Thursday Villanova athletic director, Vince Nicastro, said that moving that his football team's scheduled season-opener won't be easy.

"We haven't been able to find a resolution that isn't extremely complicated," Nicastro said. "We have had a number of discussions with the various parties (Pitt, ACC, ESPN, our football conference, the Colonial Athletic Association) to see if there was a reasonable way to shift the date."

Pitt begins play in the ACC this fall, and the ACC has reportedly shown interest in having a Pitt-FSU prime-time game at Heinz Field on September 2nd.

However, before that can happen, both schools need to move its previously scheduled game against nonconference opponents. Florida State is set to open the season against Wofford. However, FSU has already done its part as Wofford senior associate athletic director Mark Line said last week that the school willing to move the game.
