Looking Ahead: Isaiah Jones

Here's a look at what Florida State signee Isaiah Jones brings to the table at the wide receiver position and what you can expect from him this season.

Milton, Fla native wide receiver Isaiah Jones will almost certainly see early playing time in his freshman season. Losing Rodney Smith is a bigger deal than you might think due to his large-frame and ability to stretch the field.

With Smith gone, and Josh Gehres opting to attend law school opposed to returning to the team for what would be his redshirt senior season, FSU has just one wide receiver returning that is taller than 6-foot-2 - Kelvin Benjamin.

This is where Jones could have an instant impact. Jones is currently listed at 6-foot-4 and weighs 200 pounds, but he is easily capable of adding an additional 20 pounds or so.

If Jones puts the work in to understand the offense as well as adding some muscle in the weight room, he could have more of an instant impact than any of the incoming freshman.

Now Jones certainly won't win any races out on the practice fields but his unique blend of size, physicality, strong-hands, and leaping ability could provide a key component to the passing attack.

"[Jones is] a receiver that's has great ball skills and can go across the middle," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. "He's a very dynamic guy and then you add those speed guys around him, that's a great combination of guys along with those guys coming back. I'm very excited about that group."

Unlike some other receivers that flirted with FSU during their recruitment, Jones committed to the Seminoles last summer and never wavered from that pledge. He took just one official visit during that time and it was to Tallahassee.

Jones chose FSU over offers from schools such as Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Louisville, and Ohio State among others.

Perhaps the biggest dilemma Jones could have upon enrolling in the summer is picking a jersey number. He wore #2 throughout his high school career and, well, you know the deal there.
