After taking the mid-week off, No. 6 Florida State (7-0) continues its current 15-game home stand this weekend as the Seminoles host Villanova (1-3) for a three-game series beginning Friday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m. on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.
The Seminoles and the Wildcats will meet for the first time in school history on Friday. It marks the first of two first-time opponents the Seminoles will play this year. Presbyterian College is the second team that FSU has never faced as the Blue Hose come to Tallahassee for a two-game mid-week set on March 5 & 6.
FSU has fared well when facing a team for the first time posting an all-time record of 182-46 (.798). The Seminoles faced four first-time opponents in 2012 with two coming in Omaha at the College World Series. Those first-time teams included Rhode Island, North Georgia College, Stony Brook and UCLA as FSU went 4-0. The two games against Stony Brook and UCLA were both elimination games at the CWS.
Villanova enters the weekend at 1-3 overall. The Wildcats played at the NC State Tournament in Raleigh last weekend falling to NC State (14-3) and Wagner (5-4) before wrapping up the tournament with a victory over La Salle (6-3).
Against current schools from the BIG EAST Conference, Florida State owns an all-time record of 132-25 with the most games coming against USF (84 games). The Seminoles have never lost to Pittsburgh (19-0), Rutgers (2-0) and Providence (1-0). The Friars last year of baseball was in 1999 when they played in the Tallahassee Regional.
FSU is already 3-0 against BIG EAST schools in 2013 following last weekend's three-game sweep of USF.
The Seminoles will send the same starting rotation out on the hill for the third straight week as sophomore left hander Brandon Leibrandt (2-0, 5.73) gets the call on Friday, followed by senior right hander Scott Sitz (1-0, 0.00) on Saturday and junior right hander Peter Miller (1-0, 2.16) on Sunday.
The first two games of the series will air live on ESPN3 with Sunday's series finale airing over the internet on Seminoles.com All-Access. Live stats for all three contests will be available via gametracker. Audio will also be available through the All-Access player for all three games, while locally fans can listen to the game on 1270 AM (Friday) and 100.7 FM (Saturday and Sunday).
