No. 5 Florida State (24-4) will look to rebound after dropping its first ACC series of the season last weekend against Virginia Tech as the Seminoles host No. 25 Florida Gulf Coast (18-6) for a pair of mid-week games beginning Tuesday, April 2. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Florida State welcomes the Eagles to Tallahassee for the third year in a row. The Seminoles lead the all-time series 4-1 with every game in the series being played on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. Two of the five contests have been decided by two runs, while Florida State posted its largest margin of victory of 11 runs in a 13-2 win in 2011.
FGCU earned its first win in the series last year when the Eagles held the Seminoles to just three hits en route to a 5-1 victory. Scott Sitz suffered the loss despite striking out a career-high nine batters in 6.0 innings of work.
In 2011, FSU outscored the Eagles 19-6 en route to the two-game sweep. The Seminoles hit .365 as a team with 27 hits including nine for extra bases. The Florida State pitching staff posted a 2.50 ERA allowing five earned runs with 16 strikeouts in 18.0 innings of work.
The two schools first met in 2009 in Tallahassee with the Seminoles winning both games by scores of 13-3 and 11-9.
Florida State is 3-0 against schools from the Atlantic Sun and 8-0 against school from the state of Florida in 2013.
LHP Billy Strode (1-0, 0.63 ERA) will make his third start on Tuesday, while RHP Peter Miller (3-0, 3.77 ERA) will get the start for FSU on Wednesday.
